Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz to Make History with Nationally Televised Response to the State of the Union

Washington, D.C. – Tonight, Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15) will make history as the first Rio Grande Valley lawmaker to deliver a nationally televised response to the State of the Union address of the President of the United States. Her remarks, which will be delivered in Spanish, come days after winning her primary in a landslide, achieving the highest vote share of any Republican House candidate in Texas. In Congress, De La Cruz has fought for common-sense policies to uplift working families, secure the southern border, and protect seniors’ benefits.

“As the granddaughter of a Mexican campesino who worked the melon fields under the scorching Texas sun, I have been blessed to experience the American Dream, and I want to preserve it for future generations,” Congresswoman De La Cruz noted.

“As a mother, I am deeply concerned that our children won’t have the same opportunities. I have witnessed firsthand how the Biden administration’s policies fail the American people, especially Hispanics. The border is a disaster, the cost of living has skyrocketed, and violent crime threatens the safety of our children,” she added.

Congresswoman De La Cruz will also address the heartbreak of drug-related deaths among our youth, exacerbated by the influx of drugs through the southern border. The congresswoman will also speak directly to the working moms and abuelitas of America who are struggling to make ends meet.

“Like all Americans, Hispanics want the best for our families, but under Biden, everything is harder. We deserve a strong leader who will end the border crisis, bolster our economy, and ensure a brighter future for nuestras familias. In Congress, I’m also fighting to protect Medicare and Social Security for our abuelitos and improve healthcare access for women and families,” added Congresswoman De La Cruz.

In her remarks, the Congresswoman will also note that, just like her grandfather, countless Hispanic families came to America with nothing but were still able to build a bright future for their families. Drawing from her personal story of resilience and success, Congresswoman De La Cruz will call on the nation to return to values of opportunity and faith to reclaim America’s greatness.
